Man accused of threat to set woman on fire

A man will be back in court Tuesday for a case accusing him of threatening to set a woman on fire.

Patrick Luckett, who remains in the Clark County Jail, was arraigned Monday.

Terrie Hawkins of Springfield tells News Center 7 that a stranger walked up to her house on Delaware Avenue on Sunday trying to sell clothes. Later, she said, the stranger seemed to be looking for a fight.

Hawkins said the man hit her in the head and kicked her legs. She said she grabbed a shovel to defend herself. The stranger returned to her residence carrying a gas can and a lighter and announced that he was going to burn everyone who was there.

Hawkins’ family and friends said they watched in shock as the stranger threw gasoline on the woman’s legs.

There’s a spot in the road where neighbors said the stranger, identified as Luckett, set a small fire and fled down Oakleaf Avenue. Police said they found him, the gas can and the lighter.

Right now, Luckett is facing a misdemeanor arson charge because he didn’t set fire to the woman. He is to be returned to court Tuesday, when a public defender likely will be assigned to his case.

Obama supporters to open office in Troy

President Obama's reelection campaign is scheduled to open an office in Troy.

Obama supporters are expected to attend the grand opening of the Organizing for America's Troy Campaign Office at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, 6 E. Main St., the campaign announced Monday.

The opening represents the 21st Obama campaign office to open in the state, including those in Middletown, Dayton and Beavercreek, according to the release.

CareFlight called to ATV crash in Springfield

Emergency crews responded to a remote off-road location where someone was seriously injured in an all-terrain vehicle crash.

The crash was reported around 2:40 p.m. and occurred in a wooded area in the 900 block of Dayton Avenue. Careflight medical helicopter was called to the scene. The helicopter landed nearby at the Springfield Water Treatment Plant. Emergency crews were using a Gator vehicle to transport the victim from the crash scene.

Newscenter 7 has a crew at the scene and will update this story as more information becomes available.
